Resume Program!!

I was so  beat up I took my day off one day early, and then promptly skipped the make up session the next day.  You have to listen when your body talks or it will begin to yell.

So today I resume my regular Thursday sleds/bars/lower lift and I feel flat and lethargic.  I backed off a little and decided to totally focus on quality of effort and technique.  After a few sleds like this I suddenly felt very alive and FAST!!  ZERO sign of the groin strain.

Afterwards my bars and lifting were very good too, SO, back to low level jumping on Sunday!!  Yahooooo!!  Have a great day and thanks for being here!  Bubba

Dead Legs!!

I see I missed yesterday's post but it was more of the same with the upper body grind.  Today on my sleds and lifting I felt particularly dead legged for some reason.  Whatever - I just stay within myself.  Even as I got warmed up and was able to run faster, I barely noticed the groin issue that I stopped for last week in Gran Haven.  I haven't decided if I will try and jump next weekend or the following week yet.  Looking forward to it but right now I need the conditioning stuff.  Should be back to my regular benchmark weights on all lifts tomorrow.  Progress.

Yesterday Bob Crites won my division at nationals with 11'5/3.48m.  Second was Carl Huff at just under 11' and third was Terry Woodward, who I jumped with at Grand Haven, around 10' I think.  Congrats to these great friends of mine!  Bubba

New Day; More Grind!!

As mentioned awhile back I'm in a transition mode in my business as we are retooling for a vastly different and improved model of our healthcare management, staffing and outcomes company.  Because of this my travel has been minimal, which gives me a great opportunity to make some physical progress.  And of course that requires a relentless daily grind.

This morning I have a conference call with three of our attorneys to hopefully move forward with our final structure.  From there I may be ramping up travel again fairly quickly.

Now I'm comfortable with my four day training rotation that I have when I travel, but when I have extended times to train I MUST ignore the temptation to be lazy. Bottom line is I need to embrace the grind.  And I am.  Have a great day and thanks for being here!  Bubba

Hmmm! No Pain!!

I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't feel my groin today when I ran my sleds.  It was my normal full day of 2 X each 50m, 45m, 40m, 35m, and 30m.  As I warmed up and progressed I felt I could run faster and quicker but I stayed well within myself to avoid any flares.  Nothing!  Leg lifts felt decent as did my bars with ankle weights.  OK, so full three day rotation is done so time to slowly ramp the intensity back up.  Have a great day and thanks for your support!  Bubba

Back to Work!!

Felt good to get back into a routine.  My body feels decent.  The groin thing is coming around but I wasn't jumping for a few weeks anyway.  Tomorrow is the first day back on sleds/leg lifts/bars.  A bit nervous but excited.  I've been doing 5-6 rotations and now it will be 10 for a bit.  Have a great day and thanks for dropping by!  Bubba

Return to the Ramp Up!!

After a big meet my body needs a short break and then it's time to ramp up again.  I enjoy this time of training because the weights are moderate and the technique super clean.  I've just come off of a prolonged ramp to peak where at the end EVRYTHING was challenging.  So mentally this is a nice way to get going again, as my body and mind need a break from the high intensity.

My groin thing isn't much but I won't jump anyway for the first three weeks as I ramp back up to full run/bar/sleds/lifting, etc.  Once I'm back to the base/benchmark levels there I'll spend a day going through my 12'4"/3.75m poles, another day on my 13'1"/4m poles and then a practice or two on my 13'7"/4.15m poles.

I have six weeks until my next meet at Ft. Collins, Colorado where I will only take my 14'1"/4.30m poles.  Ft. Collins is odd in a good way.  The school doesn't want to move the PV or HJ pits outside so we get an "indoor mark".  Not only is it an indoor mark when you are at a higher level, but the mark also goes on to NEXT year's rankings, so on December 1, you pop up with a decent indoor mark already.  Pretty cool!

After that I have the San Diego Senior Games on September 21, so that gets me through most of my "offseason".  As mentioned I'm "early" for next year meaning I expect my bigger marks to start coming sometime between now and Reno in January and to build from there. That's it for now.  Have a great day and thanks for your support!  Bubba
